Custody Account Manager is a senior level (AVP or VP) position responsible for account management of non-resident and resident JPY Custody clients in coordination with the Product Management team.

The position involves high intensity interaction with offshore clients and Citi staff in English, in addition to support in Japanese of a smaller number of local clients with custody accounts at Citibank, N.A., Tokyo

The ideal candidate will be native Japanese speaker with near native level English communication, will be highly motivated and be able work proactively with multiple stakeholders on behalf of Direct Custody and Clearing on a broad array of responsibilities.

The overall objective of this role is to onboard and service Direct Custody and Clearing and Global Custody clients for JPY custody and clearing accounts held at Citibank, N.A., Tokyo Branch.


  • Onboard JPY custody clients for resident and non-resident investors, including support of implementation of accounts for on-exchange and off-exchange settlements

  • Onboard inbound Global Custody clients, including AML KYC and account opening documentation

  • Support market applications to local authorities and CSDs for intermediaries to hold client positions of fixed income and non-fixed income products

  • Share relative client feedback with DCC product to enhance existing service/products, and suggest possible new product development

  • Work effectively with local/global operations, legal, compliance on ad hoc client requests

  • Understand concepts of intraday/overnight credit facilities, and various tax laws that impact custody account holders

  • Coordinate completion of annual AFME and customized due diligence requests

  • Develop in-depth understanding of DCC clients operating models, and actively engage clients to realize operational efficiencies

  • Support DCC product to achieve annual financial goals

  • Work with DCC product sales on new business initiatives to build pipeline for DCC Japan through RFI/RFPs

  • Support DCC product on regular compliance testing

  • Engage regional/global teams to ensure client requests are properly understood and responded to in a timely and consistent manner

  • Conduct annual review of dormant accounts

  • Ensure highest level of ethical standards, and compliance with all relevant local/global rules and regulations

  • Exhibit a working understanding of the market landscape in Japan in the Custody and Clearing space, and identify opportunities for new product


  • 5-15 years of relevant experience

  • Native Japanese speaker with near native level English communication

  • Diverse functional experience in JPY custody (e.g. account management, operations, client services, settlements, corporate actions, credit, product development,)

  • Demonstrated experience managing direct custody relationships, or advanced operational knowledge of DCC client needs

  • Demonstrated knowledge of DCC product/services

  • Ability to work unsupervised and adjust priorities quickly as circumstances dictate

  • Ability to work under pressure and manage deadlines or unexpected changes in expectations or requirements

  • Demonstrated problem-solving and decision-making skills

  • Demonstrated analytical and influencing skills

  • Consistently demonstrates clear and concise written and verbal communication in English and Japanese


  • Bachelor’s degree/University degree or equivalent experience

  • Master’s degree preferred
