Associate - Mid-Corporate Banking

The Commercial Banking Associate function within the Mid-Corporate Segment of Citi’s Commercial Bank is designed to provide thorough, objective analysis of the financial condition and credit worthiness of commercial banking clients and prospects within the Mid-Corporate sector, as well as analysis of prevailing industry and market conditions.  Analysis is performed through the examination and interpretation of historical and projected financial statements and related information, biographical data on a company and/or individual, market information, and credit reports, with a focus on determining a borrower’s repayment ability.  The Commercial Banking Associate also assists with the preparation of various reports, informational requests, credit inquiries, and other special requests from the Relationship Managers and Credit/Risk as needed.


- Support the commercial bankers in underwriting requests for credit extensions for new and existing clients, and in the writing of annual reviews.

- Perform detailed financial analysis on companies, including trend and ratio analysis, and interpret the financial information.

- Assist in executing integrated sales, relationship, and credit strategies that are in alignment with the regional business plan to achieve desired revenue and service hurdles.
- Work closely with Commercial Banking Relationship Managers to provide product specialists with qualified referrals for cross-sell. 

- Assist in closing deals across all products.

- Perform Due Diligence with clients’ primary funding agencies to ensure good standing within industry and stability of contract revenues.

- Track compliance with various loan covenants as outlined in the Loan Agreement, in addition to tracking receipt of Reporting Requirements.

- Build a solid understanding of Citi products and services (both within Business and Commercial Banking and the broader organization), as they pertain to Middle Market clients.

- Support the development of pitch books and marketing proposals.

- Assist with various reporting packages, including HMDA and CRA packages for clients.

- Accompany bankers on customer site visits and client calls, and write up Call Reports, when appropriate.

- Perform industry and geographical research and other due diligence as needed.

- Assist with credit file maintenance, Basel collateral updates, reporting requirement maintenance and other administrative matters.

- Be familiar with Citibank credit policies and practices and regulatory policies, to assist unit in achieving compliance with the above and satisfactory ratings from internal and external auditors.

- Recommend changes to process to achieve greater efficiency.


- Undergraduate degree required, business or related concentration preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years banking experience preferably in Commercial Banking with formal commercial credit training (i.e. Credit College)
- Strong analytical skills including the ability to read and assess individual and company financial statements, cash flow, industry and competitive analysis and projections
- Demonstrated knowledge of intermediate accounting theory and its practical application in the credit underwriting process
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to complete assignments in a timely manner 
- Strong written and verbal/presentation communication skills
- Problem recognition and resolution skills
- Ability to work independently and also effectively within a team
- Proficient in various spreadsheet and word processing applications (Excel and Word are preferred), including the use of graphs and charts, Siebel and Moody's financial analysis software
