Legal Support Associate Officer

An opportunity has arisen in the Belfast Markets Legal Department for a prominent, ‘hands on’ role within the Trading Document Enquiries function supporting the Belfast team in addition to various stakeholder groups on a global scale.  
The Enquiries team is an essential support function to both Markets Legal and other internal departments which legal work closely with. The team are required to ensure the smooth running of systems through root cause analysis of systems related problems and solving of issues in a timely manner. The Enquiries team act as the helpdesk to triage issues raised by various internal stakeholder groups. Issues include review and location of legal agreements, checking/ correcting legal agreement metadata within the Master Agreement database, MCA quarterly control sampling, trade linking and assistance with margin disputes resolutions.
The position will require an awareness of the impact of core regulation on the derivatives markets and underlying documentation.Job Background/context:
Citi’s Legal Department in Belfast is a team of approximately 115 staff, covering a range of products and services across Citi’s Europe Middle East and Africa region (known as “EMEA”).  
The Belfast Legal Department provides a range of services, support and advice to many business areas with a particular focus on Citi’s Institutional Client Group; incorporating transaction negotiation, master agreement negotiation, and oversight of compliance and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
The position will involve a number of responsibilities including but not limited to:
Handling routine and bespoke legal enquiries which arrive via email to a group distribution list. Answer such enquiries with respect to executed agreements, those under negotiation and any trade linking/ downstream issue.
Provide day to day support to key internal departments such as Legal, Risk, Margin Ops, Operations, and the Business.
Responsibility for the data integrity of key trading and document repository systems to reflect executed contract terms and ensuring key controls are being implemented. This will include but not be limited to ensuring that any novations, mergers and name changes are updated on the relevant data systems. Liaison with relevant internal functions to seek approval before any such system changes are made is required as is ensuring that all such documentation are appropriately stored and archived.
Perform internal and external audit checks and relay finding/samples to direct line management. 
Bulk uploads, template preparation, implementation of upload and resolving validation errors
Legal database enhancements testing and strategy which will include calls with key stakeholder groups on systems strategy and bespoke systems set up.
Identify and close training or knowledge gaps observed within the team related to the Master Agreement Database in order to maintain data integrity.
Attend scheduled meetings with key business and legal stakeholders to ensure effective and open communication at all times. 
Running regular Excel reports and statistics for Senior Legal/business. 
Convey strong commercial awareness and understanding of the business priorities.
Contribute to the development and implementation of process improvements, through liaising with internal stakeholders such as Risk, Client Risk Facilitation, Client Onboarding, Regulatory Reform, CVA, Operations and Legal.
Problem solve in order to facilitate solutions to ensure systems can support client offerings.  
Partner with colleagues in the other regions in order to ensure global consistency.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate must have a high quality academic record including a degree qualification in the relevant discipline of law or business studies. 
Knowledge/Experience: 
Excellent technical skills and analytical ability
Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel
Experience working with legal data systems management in either a law firm or corporate legal department is highly advantageous.  Proven track record in delivering results in a challenging and changing environment
Skills:
Excellent interpersonal communication skills
Working knowledge of PC operating systems, particularly Microsoft Word and Excel
Ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal) at all organisational levels
Ability to effectively project manage and organise own workload as well as supporting the team in meeting key milestones
Strong attention to detail and high levels of accuracy

Ability to provide continuous feedback and to regularly follow up on all outstanding issues
