Department Overview:

The Business Risk and Control position is a Sole contributor role focusing on overseeing the existing Commodities Sales and Trading controls whilst supporting projects to enhance the control framework.The successful candidate will report to the Commodities In-Business Risk & Controls lead with key focus on identification and resolution of control gaps.

The key stakeholders include Commodities Sales and Trading, Business Unit Managers, the Central Markets In-Business Risk & Controls teams Compliance, Operations and Technology.

Key Responsibilities:

Governance -

  • Chair key forums around Auctions, Benchmarks and eTrading for the Commodities business.

  • Ensure that the governance frameworks are operating effectively, and that appropriate control oversight are in place to manage risks, and drive remediation initiatives where required.

  • Participate in Markets wide governance forums to provide Commodities business input and drive the implementation of actions within the business.

  • Provide support to key stakeholders and control functions on an ad-hoc basis (e.g., Compliance inquiries)

Controls/Reporting -

  • Coordinate the maintenance and further enhancement of existing controls processes for Commodities (e.g., Supervisory Quarterly attestation, Manager Control Assessment).

  • Develop and implement new / enhanced controls to meet business and regulatory requirements

  • Collaborate with front office and support partners to investigate and resolve control issues. 

  • Produce, enhance, and automate (as required) reporting tools and produce Management Information materials

Other -

  • Ensure procedures, process notes, and other documentation are up-to-date and applied to adequately

Development Value -

  • Gaining knowledge about Commodities business and Front Office processes and control

  • Developing technical skills through process improvement and automation

  • Working with people from different functions, countries, and diverse backgrounds.


  • Qualifications and skills required or skills to be developed within the role:Undergraduate degree required

  • Experience in Commodities and/or Risk & Control functions preferred

  • Must be attentive to details and adaptive

  • Problem solving and analytical skills required

  • Advanced Excel, PowerPoint skills required. Database management skills preferred.

  • Good written and verbal communication

  • Interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively and with people at all levels of the organization and across different geographic locations

  • A proactive and “no surprises” approach in communicating issues

  • Range of experience demonstrating flexibility in skillset and approach
